In 1813 William Crawford founded a small shop at the shore of Leith.
The caption reads "These ladies were known as the white mice, they worked in the firms biscuit factory in Leith in 1926. The photograph was sent in by "News" reader Mrs J McTurk, of 30 Avondale Place, Edinburgh and she is pictured on the extreme right. She was then called Jeanie Leslie. Anyone remember her from those days?"
Leith is situated in the north of Edinburgh where the Water of Leith joins the Firth of Forth. It has acted as Edinburgh's maritime connection for many centuries, and continues to be one of the UK's busiest ports.
