The text next to the photograph of Lochside Cottage says 'The old thatched house with the picturesque penthouse over its main doorway, that still stands at Lochend, might well have been the dwelling of a portioner [small landowner] of Restalrig nearly three centuries ago.'
VAT 69 was the premium grade blended whisky produced by William Sanderson and Son Ltd in Leith. The company was located in Maritime Street, then known as Quality Street, at the time of this photograph. In 1969 it moved to South Queensferry and has since been taken over by Diageo.
