This is a scaled down version of Hamilton's plan for the rebuilt church in 1847, for publication in Robertson's South Leith Records, second series, 1925.
The Burghs Trading Act of 1846 had removed the privileges of the trade incorporations so that most of them ceased to exist. But Hamilton did not take account of this. The seating plan he produced represented a reduction of the seating accommodation in the church.
This seating arrangement remained until the reconstruction of the church interior in 1894, to suit the new method of distributing the Communion elements to the congregation seated in the pews.
