Undercroft of hexagonal chapel, showing 13th century font, and various carved bosses from the upper chapel roof.
The ruined Old Chapel at Restalrig, Edinburgh, is part of Restalrig Church which dates from the 15th century and was largely destroyed in 1560. It was restored in 1836 and renamed St Margaret's Parish Church. St Triduana's Well which was part of the church was a centre for pilgrimage in the Middle Ages. The well had a reputation for curing those with affected eyesight.
According to legend, St Triduana attracted unwanted attention from the Pictish King Nectan, and plucked out her eyes and gave them to him. After this, she was able to cure the blind. She came to Restalrig in later life and is buried there.
