Mrs Ritchie was the founder, in 1927, of the Newhaven Fisherwoman's Choir, which lasted for over 50 years and gave performances all over the UK and even further afield (for instance, they performed in Norway in 1961). There are some recordings of them still in existence. There were other traditional fishwives choirs, and the Fishergirls Choir which was founded in 1896, but this was the most famous.
