Title
High School Wynd - a poem
Description
Donald Campbell's poem is inspired by the sketch by Walter Geikie:
High School Wynd
In the days of our last king*
High School Wynd was filled with dread.
The scholars started rioting
and shot the bailie, shot him dead.
John McMorran, honest and brave
took charge when every teacher fled.
This action put him in his grave -
Who shot the bailie, shot him dead?
Billy Sinclair, foolish lad,
was aye a proper dunderhead.
He lost whatever sense he had
and shot the bailie, shot him dead.
Justice then would come and go.
"He's owre high-born" the Judges said.
So Billy didna swing, although
he shot the bailie, shot him dead!
*James VI.
