The Desert Song is an operetta composed by Sigmund Romberg in 1926, with book and lyrics by Otto Harbach, Oscar Hammerstein II and Frank Mandel. This music sheet cover has been created for The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane as produced by Alfred Butt along with Lee Ephraim in 1927. The cover illustration is a reproduction in shades of blue depicting the romantic lead in Arab dress with the heroine in equine costume standing at the edge of the desert. The illustration reflects the theme of the song, the Moroccan Riff uprising against colonial rule in 1925, inspired by the romance of the Lawrence of Arabia tales mixed with the exotic hold for Europeans of North Africa and its Berber people.
