The Sailor's Polka song sheet cover features at its centre the figure of a naval officer, in full dress uniform complete with epaulettes and insignia, holding his tricorne hat in his hand while taking the hand of his partner in the other. The lady is in a full skirted, high necked day dress with tatted collar, overskirt and bonnet typical of ladies fashion around the 1860s. The pair are set on the foreground of a naval ship, a canon can be seen to the left and rigging along with a flagpole flying what is probably a Blue Ensign flag to represent the Royal Navy. There are groups of couples in the background.
