In The Strand Polka by Robert Coote, was based on the original song titled 'In the Strand Polka or I wish I was with Nancy', sung by E.W.Mackney and published in 1861. The illustration is a copy of the lithographic illustration used for this song which was done by lithographic team Concanen & Lee. E.W.Mackney (1825-1909) performed minstrel around English music halls. This is purportedly a portrait of E.W.Mackney done up in black face, in a blue and red minstrel costume.
