This is the view north towards Leith from the artist's vantage point on Picardy Place standing facing the top of Leith Walk.
The rounded building towards the centre of the print with the trees in front, is at the junction of Elm Row and Leopold Place. The buildings shown between this junction and the main building to the right of the frame are at Baxter's Place which faces the Leith end of Union Place. Most of these buildings have not altered, only the triangle of Picardy Place has been demolished and was replaced by a large traffic roundabout system.
