Description
The print depicts three actors in a scene from a Kabuki play.
The right sheet shows Ichikawa Danjuro VIII as Shogun Taro Yoshikado (son of the evil pretender Masakado). The other two actors, unidentified, play the roles of Omatsu a Country Girl, actually Lady Kikyo-no-mae, and ** [cut] Choko no Chokohei (on the table with a fan) played by Ichikawa Kodanji IV.'[T. Censor's seals: Kinugasa and Hama (1847 - 1848)
This is one of a set of 50 prints donated to Edinburgh City Libraries by Marie Ferguson Dyer in honour of her father Henry Dyer. Dyer was a Scottish engineer who became the first Principal of the Imperial College of Engineering in Tokyo in 1872.
