Biography

Charles S. Minto was City Librarian and Curator for Edinburgh City Council from 1953 to 1970. He was the first City Librarian to have followed his entire career within the Edinburgh Library service, and his years in office saw many new developments with expansion of facilities at the Central Library, increased branch and mobile library provision, and improved services to children, the housebound and hospital patients. In the wider field of Scottish Librarianship, C. S. Minto also served as President of the Scottish Library Association.
