Morningside Cemetery was opened in 1878. The volume's accompanying text reads:
Metropolitan Cemetery Company, London
The Morningside Cemetery is beautifully situated at the foot of Morningside Village, and immediately outside the Edinburgh city bounds, affording extensive views of the Pentlands and neighbouring hills.
The Grounds have been laid out with great skill and taste, and are planted with shrubs and flowers; and various monuments have already been erected. They are open to the public daily from dawn to dusk. Seats have been placed for visitors, and shelter from rain is afforded in the Lodge at the Entrance Gate.
The Cemetery is within easy distance of the starting-point of the Tramway Cars for Princes Street and Newington, and a Station on the new Suburban Railway is to be situated near the Cemetery Gate.
