On April 6th, 1917 the United States of America voted to declare war on Germany, officially entering World War One in allegiance with Allied Forces. Despite three years attempting to maintain American neutrality, President Wilson, no longer able to ignore German hostility, asked Congress for the declaration, warning that "the world must be made safe for democracy."
Fighting since 1914, British, French and Russian troops welcomed news of U.S. involvement; American participation brought two million troops to France and replenished dimished supply levels.
