St Giles Kirk, often called St Giles Cathedral, is situated on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. Luckenbooths is a Scottish word meaning lockable stall or workshop. They were the first permanent shops on the High Street, dating back to the 15th century and usually sold jewellry and such trinkets, as well as housing silversmiths and goldsmiths. They were demolished in 1817 in order to widen the High Street.
