The First World War was the first conflict in which civilians were targeted by bombing raids from the air. This particular attack was by a German dirigible over Antwerp and its objective was to destroy a number of public buildings. Fortunately no buildings of importance were damaged but 7 citizens were killed and 20 more were injured.
