This image again emphasises the importance of construction, with the mechanism being controlled by the cherub, as well as the quill being used for a sail. By illustrating a child receiving the book, the actual readers of book are able to place themselves within the story right before the page is turned and the actual story starts. Again, the thought process of the child is at the centre of Crane's work.
