The image of Ceres is heavily indebted to the style of Aesthetic art. Her crown and the draping of the dress are all classic trademarks of the Aesthetic style. Crane is able to deftly transition back and forth between styles without compromising his own aesthetic. Again, Crane is using elevated depictions of beauty to attract the eye and educate children in poetry in their literary heritage and in contemporary artistic styles.
