This image is the title page of the first volume of Plans, Elevations, Details and Sections of the Alhambra. Owen Jones, as he experimented with printing methods, also became a producer of book covers. The verse belongs to a poem by Victor Hugo, Les Orientales (1829) in which he praises the Alhambra. The pomegranates depicted refer to the city of Granada, as in Spanish, the fruit and the city share the name.

All illustrations in this volume are attributed to Jones and his sometime travelling partner Jules Goury, a Welsh architect who died of Cholera during their six month stay at The Alhambra.
