Jones firmly believed that these mosaics belonged to the divan in the area of the throne of the Moorish kings. One of the reasons why he attempted to introduce tile production in England was because he thought tiles seemed to be imperishable and therefore, something that would not require future restorations.

All illustrations in this volume are attributed to Jones and his sometime travelling partner Jules Goury, a Welsh architect who died of Cholera during their six month stay at The Alhambra.
