The Hole I' the Wa' public house stood in the area opposite to the top of Candlemaker Row now occupied by the Museum of Scotland.
'Bristo Port' originally referred to a gateway though the city walls to Candlemaker Row. It now refers to a short street, almost parallel to Chambers Street, at the rear of the Museum of Scotland. 'Society Port' and 'Greyfriars Port' are earlier names for this gateway.
