This is a Leyland Atlantean PRD2.1 model which was built for Edinburgh Corporation Transport by Walter ALexander and Co. (Coachbuilders) Ltd who are a Falkirk based company. This Bus was shown at the 1968 Scottish Motor Show and was the first 33ft long bodied version ever to be shown in the UK.
The information from the back of the print reads, 'Although there are now over 3500 rear-engined Leyland Atlantean double deck buses operating in Britain, this one for Leyland's stand at this year's Scottish Motor Show will be the first 33ft long bodied version ever to be shown.
It is a PDR2.1 model for Edinburgh Corporation Transport and has normal height bodywork by Walter Alexander and Co. (Coachbuilders) Ltd. The design is Alexander's all-metal J-type with 82 seats, 47 in the upper saloon and 35 on the lower deck. It is 32 feet and 8 and a half inches long, 8 feet and 2 and a half inches wide, 14 feet and 7 inches high unladen, and features large picture framed windows.
A novel feature of the display vehicle is the use of a spring actuated "fail safe" parking brake on the rear axle. The installation has been specially produced by the spring suppliers at the request of Edinburgh Corporation. The show model also has dual circuits for the air brakes with separate reservoirs for the front and rear systems.
