William Purves, a craftsman and cabinetmaker from the Borders, started his company in 1888 and started undertaking by the end of the 19th century. In the early 1900s his son Willie opened a funeral office in Marchmont Road. From the early 1960s the company focused exclusively on undertaking and in the 1970s more offices were opened. The business is still run by the family.
