The first motor bus service began operation in Edinburgh in 1919. After the tramways were closed between 1951 and 1956 the Edinburgh Street Tramways company gained responsibility for the running of the city bus service and changed its name to Edinburgh Corporation Transport. In 1975 the name was changed to Lothian Region Transport after an attempt to privatise the company however the it remained in the hands of Lothian Region council and and is today still trading under the control of Edinburgh City council as Lothian Buses. This picture shows the1988 model double decker in the company's traditional madder livery.
