Rosebury [Rosebery] Reservoir

Description

This photograph documents the construction of Rosebery Reservoir. It shows the bed of the reservoir being dug and many construction workers and their equipment can be seen in the hole they are digging. Most notably a number of rails resembling train tracks have been laid to lift heavy loads. A cottage, a line of trees and fields can be seen surrounding the construction site.

Rosebery reservoir is a small body of water which stands near Gorebridge in Midlothian. Opened in 1880, it is a compensation reservoir which collects surface water from the Moorfoot Hills. It is mostly used today for pleasure fishing and is the habitat of rainbow trout, pike and perch.
