The panorama gives 'the names of the chief mountains, lochs and islands, extending from Arran to Inverness and from the Outer Hebrides to the Ochils'.
Ben Nevis is Britain's highest mountain, standing at 1,344m above the town of Fort William. It is a particularly impressive sight as it rises from sea-level from the shores of Loch Linnhe. The glen and river running beside the mountain are also called Nevis. The name in Gaelic, 'Beinn Nibheis,' can mean poisonous or terrible, suggesting the mountain's unpredictable climate and nature.
