Horticulture within a zoo is a complex business. When the zoo opened, the main focus was on using plants to create a beautiful backdrop for visitors. Today, the gardeners concentrate on developing the right plants within the design on each enclosure. The right mix of plants can make all the difference to the animals' health and well-being. There are over 1200 mature trees and over 2000 species of plants within the zoo park.
