North Berwick is a small town situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, roughly 20 miles north-east of Edinburgh. The area has been inhabited for over 2000 years. The town developed into a notable tourist destination with its connection to Edinburgh by rail in the mid 19th century, drawing thousands of visitors with its golf courses and beaches. North Berwick remains popular with tourists and golfers today. The town's fishing industry, which was substantial in the 18th and 19th centuries, is now much diminished. The harbour is largely used by leisure craft.
