Agnes Barclay Rose (1906-1984), was the youngest child of Leone "Leo" Levi Ritchie and Mary Sim Ritchie (nee Hill).
Agnes finished her education at Portobello High School, where she was one of the brightest students of history of her year. Agnes attended the University of Edinburgh and received a 2nd Class Honours Degree (1st Class was given to men only) and qualified as a school teacher. She taught at Towerbank School in Portobello until she married William Hunter (1904 - 1970) in 1943. The couple had one son; James Wallace Hunter who matched his mother's educational achievements by gaining a B.Sc. Honours in Physics followed a Ph.D.
