April 2012 marks the 100th anniversary of the disastrous maiden voyage of the supposedly unsinkable ship, the Titanic. After setting sail from Southampton on 10th April, the Titanic was sailing across the Atlantic Ocean en route for New York City when she struck a devastating iceberg. The nearby RMS Carpathia ship picked up the Titanic's wireless distress telegram: SOS. We have struck iceberg. Require assistance. Position 41.46N 50.14W. Titanic and rescued hundreds of survivors from lifeboats. However, of the 2224 passengers and crew on board, more than 1500 people died in the tragedy.
