Inverness Castle stands on the banks of the River Ness which runs through the city of Inverness. There has been a castle in Inverness since medieval times however it has been in many hands over these years and the modern incarnation of the Castle was built in 1836 by architect William Burn. It is made from red sand stone and is currently used as the Sheriff Court and other administrative buildings.
