A sailing boat sits off a small island. The island is in the centre of the Kyles of Bute. In the foreground, a stone house can just be seen through the trees which form part of the mainland. In the distance are the hills of the opposite shore.

The Kyles of Bute are narrow sea straits which run from Tighnabruaich around to the northern end of the Isle of Bute, where its principal town, Rothesay, is better known; towards Kilchattan Bay, Scalpsie Bay and Mount Stuart House. The Kyles are designated a National Scenic Area.
