Greenock stands on the South bank of the River Clyde where the river expands into the Firth of Clyde.

The picture is taken from an area of the town called Whin Hill which once was a public park and is now home to a golf club. In the picture there are visible a number of spires, housing but also chimneys which may belong to the sugar refineries or wool factories that were the central trades in Greenock at one point along with shipbuilding and other costal activities.
