On the corner of Lawnmarket and head of West Bow stands a rag store. In front of the shop stands a police officer. Advertisements are above the shop doorway. On the cobblestone road are horse-drawn carts, wheelbarrows, and people. Washing dries from windows. Street lamps are along the pavement.

Lawnmarket is the section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile running from its junction with Johnston Terrace to where it meets George IV Bridge. Regular markets were held in this area until the late 18th century.

Edinburgh's West Bow was zig-zagging street which led from the Grassmarket to the Lawnmarket. Its upper half was destroyed by the construction of Victoria Street and Terrace.

The word cobble has been used here to help with searching, an alternative term is sett. Sett stones describe both the type of stone and the method in which they are used.
