Biography
David Deuchar was born in 1743 in Angus. His father Alexander, originally a farmer, moved to Edinburgh to become a lapidary in 1745. David followed his father's profession and became a seal engraver of renown. He gave drawing lessons to Henry Raeburn, whom he also introduced to David Martin, the portrait painter.
Deuchar's most famous publications are:
'A Collection of Etchings after the Most Eminent Masters of the Dutch and Flemish Schools' and his series of etchings after Holbein's 'Dance of Death'.
