Description
Cotton banner with painted design and red wool fringe. Painting of an armed soldier wearing a tartan kilt with jacket, plaid, sporran with foxes head and carrying a shield and basket handled sword. On his head is a feathered blue bonnet. There are mountains in the background. On a scroll at the bottom edge, TURN THE BLUE BONNETS WHA' CAN in black lettering. At the top edge, First CARRIED IN 1832.

The soldier is calling up the fighting spirit of
the 17th century Blue Bonnets, indicating that
that the path set on the course of reform cannot
be altered. Carried by the Edinburgh Joiners,
number 18 in the Reform Jubilee Grand Procession on 10 August 1832. It was later carried by the Associated Carpenters and
Joiners of Scotland, Edinburgh United Branch on
17 November 1866 and in the Great Demonstration against the Criminal Law Amendment Act on 23 August 1873.
