This item was digitised as part of the Whose Town? project, an educational resource for schools. Unique archival material was gathered together to create a snapshot of a person's life at a particular point in Edinburgh's history.
Gopal Singh Kharbanda, came to train in Scotland in 1928 at the Dunfermline College of Physical Education. When he returned to India, he organised the first Colleges for Physical Education and Scouting in India. Mr Gopal Kharbandas experience in Scotland led him to encourage his son Bachan to study in Scotland. Always a man of action, Bachans father cycled around Europe in the 1950s lecturing on physical education. He also came to Glasgow when Bachan was living there and helped set up the Glasgow Indian Association.
