This item was digitised as part of the Whose Town? project, an educational resource for schools. Unique archival material was gathered together to create a snapshot of a person's life at a particular point in Edinburgh's history.
The 2000 year old town of Koblenz in Germany is situated in the beautiful landscape of the Rhine and Moselle rivers and owes it name to the Romans, who built a castle around 9 BC which they called 'castellum apud confluentes' meaning 'castle at the confluence of the rivers'. The town has a rich history and visitors today can enjoy the many castles and palaces, monuments and fortresses.
The chair is the one always occupied by the grandmother of the Kaiser, who attended that church when resident in Koblenz.
