About the artist
Name
Pringle, John Quinton
Biography
Born in the East End of Glasgow in 1864, Pringle was a Glasgow School artist. By profession he was an optician and only part time did he paint. For twenty years Pringle worked in a very dark shop under the railway bridge near Glasgow Cross, using artificial lights from the gas jets.
A prosperous yet chaotic business man, Pringle sold his shop in 1923. Pringle attended Glasgow School of Art between 1895- 1896. His work as an optician gave him the financial backing and ability to explore his interests as an artist. Pringle died in 1925.
