Directed by Steven Spielberg and released in 1982, ET: The Extra Terrestrial was a story of a little boy called Elliot who finds a lost alien and helps him contact his family. The catchphrase 'ET phone home' was repeated around the world.
The film inspired a range of merchandise from cuddly toys to jigsaw puzzles.
