The character of Postman Pat was the brainchild of John Cuncliffe who wrote the stories. Postman Pat and his friends were brought to life by Ivor Wood for Woodland Animations with the first television series shown in 1981.
The television programmes were accompanied by a wide range of books and toys, making Pat a firm favourite with the next two generations of children. Woodland Animations was sold in 2001 to the character licensing group, Entertainment Rights, and a new television series has recently been screened.
