Established in 1867, George Mackay & Co Ltd operated at St Leonard's Brewery and was registered as a limited liability company in 1908 to acquire the business of the same name. The company was taken over by Gordon & Blair of the Craigwell Brewery in Edinburgh and in 1960, the St Leonard's Brewery was purchased by Seager, Evans & Co Ltd of London, who sold it to Watney Mann Ltd in 1961. The company ceased brewing in 1963.
