Andrew Drybrough a baxter (baker) and brewer was brewing in Edinburgh before 1750. He was succeeded by James Drybrough, a brewer in the Tolbooth, who later moved to the south side of North Back of Canongate (now Calton Road) in 1782, trading as Andrew Drybrough & Co. Having expanded into Craigend Brewery on the north side of North Back of Canongate in 1874, the company moved to a site in Craigmillar in 1892. In 1895, Drybrough & Co Ltd registered as a limited liability company to acquire the business. The company was acquired by Watney Mann Ltd in 1965 until it was sold in 1987 when the Craigmillar Brewery ceased brewing.
