Description
Excerpt from page "Duddingston Road 1825 - When the King visited this city in 1822 a plan of a new road from St Leonards leading by the basaltic columns and through the village of Duddingston on wards to Portobello, was laid before and explained to his Majesty of which he approved. Since when measures have been taken to convey it into effect. For some months past, workmen have been busily engaged in erecting a bridge over the burn near the mill, and the road to Portobello has been staked off. In course of theses proceedings a mineral spring apparently stronger, but as of the same sort as that off St Bernard's has been discovered near to Duddingston Mill. When this romantic road is completed a more beautiful ride or drive can hardly be contemplated" E.E.C October 1825
