Description
A view of tenement housing with a tobacconist's shop and The Hall Bar public house at ground level. Two boys wearing long shorts walk past the tobacconist's which has a canopy outside and displays an advert for Player's Navy Cut cigarettes. Two men pass each other walking in opposite directions and a woman is leaning out of a high level window. An arched passageway leads between the retail premises and underneath the first floor of the buildings to properties beyond.

This is a photograph from the book 'Origin, nomenclature and location of various houses and streets in Edinburgh'.
Bristo Street ran from Chapel Street to the present day Bristo Place, previously its southernmost section. The section of the street from Bristo Place to Chapel Street was destroyed in the development of Bristo Square in 1982.
