This is a photograph from the book 'Origin, nomenclature and location of various houses and streets in Edinburgh'.

Semple Street runs north from Fountainbridge to Morrison Street, almost parrallel with Lothian Road. It is a northerly continuation of the now interrupted Thornybauk. The street was named in the 1760's for Robert Semple who owned a brewery at the north end of the street. Houses in Semple Street were demolished in the 1920's.
