Description
Seven men sit and stand in rows in a photographic studio for a group portrait. A couple of the men in front are wearing a uniform similar to a sailor's outfit, whilst the other men wear smart suits. The men standing behind rest their hands on the shoulders of the men seated in front of them.

The title given to this image suggests that the survivor of the tenement collapse at Bailie Fyfe's Close in 1861 is pictured amongst the group. 35 people were killed in the disaster but one young lad was heard calling out to the rescuers and was pulled from the rubble. He is credited with the now famous line, "Heave awa, chaps, ah'm no, deid yet'. However, several other sources name the boy as Joseph McIver.
