Foot of Canongate

Description

The modern structure of the Scottish Parliament faces traditional shops and houses across the Foot of the Canongate, Edinburgh. The Parliament is constructed at many different angles and has abstract panels decorating its exterior. Road works are being carried out further in the road and a row of construction signs are placed at the side of the pavement. A man is waiting on a small roundabout in the middle of the road for a car to pass by.

The Scottish Parliament building at Holyrood was opened in October 2004. It was designed by a Spanish architectural practice led by Enric Miralles and his wife Benedetta Tagliabue in conjunction with the Scottish company RMJM. The project has been the source of much controversy, principally on the subjects of its cost and appearance. The building is open to members of the public.
