Description

Many people are skating on the ice rink in Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh. A large floodlit banner runs down one side of the rink with the words "Winter Wonderland" written on it. Canopies provide shelter for people at the far end. The scene is overlooked by the National Gallery of Scotland and New College and Ramsay Gardens at the Head of the Mound.

Princes Street Gardens were established on the site of the Nor' Loch which was drained during the C18. The park was originally for the exclusive use of the residents of Princes Street, but was opened to the public in 1876. The gardens contain various statues of notable figures, as well as the Ross fountain and bandstand and the famous floral clock.
