The Edinburgh International Festival was established in 1947. Its aim was to stage a major international cultural event in Edinburgh, showcasing first-rate performances of classical music, dance, opera and theatre.
In 1999 the building that had been the Tolbooth Church built between 1842-44 and then the meeting place of the General Assembley of Scotland became 'The Hub', an information centre, ticket office, and venue for the Edinburgh International Festival.
